Fideli Sundqvist
Fideli Sundqvist is a celebrated paper artist, illustrator, and graphic designer from Uppsala, Sweden. Raised in a creative family—her mother a potter and her father a religious historian—Fideli’s artistic journey began early, in a small printing space in the kitchen where she would hang her hand-made artworks to dry on a clothesline. Inspired by music and the rich artistic atmosphere of her childhood, Fideli was captivated by album-cover art—especially a linoleum cut cover that opened her eyes to innovative art forms. Shortly after high school, she moved to Stockholm to pursue her passion, studying first at Nyckelviksskolan and later at Konstfack. In spring 2011, she graduated with a degree in Graphic Design and Illustration. During her studies, Fideli discovered her fascination with paper art by cutting detailed paper silhouettes using a scalpel. Initially working in two dimensions, she has since expanded her practice to constructing and photographing three-dimensional paper objects. Her evolving technique highlights the interplay of light and shadow, showcasing both intricate craftsmanship and creative innovation. Fideli made her debut in 2011 with the book Birre, where are you?, which won first prize in publishing house Opal’s picturebook contest. Continually inspired by everyday life, she believes that exposing oneself to diverse impressions fuels the creative process. This passion for exploration and her commitment to merging traditional methods with modern design make her work uniquely engaging and visually striking.
