BIOGRAPHY

Norwegian design duo Darling Clementine consists of Ingrid Reithaug and Tonje Holand. They got to know each other many years ago in Oslo and realised almost immediately that their backgrounds and approach to design was basically identical. "One could almost believe that fate had brought us together," they say with one voice. "Right after our first meeting, we knew that this would change our lives." Darling Clementine work as freelance illustrators, and have their own product range including, amongst other things, cards, cushion-covers, kitchen towels and porcelain. This fall they’ll even release their very own brand of tea! The duo do everything from children’s design to more classic illustrations. "We also enjoy taking editorial assignments for interior design and fashion magazines and doing packaging design." Their method of working is relatively unusual in that one of them will often begin an illustration only for the other to take over and complete the picture. "We have extremely similar views on aesthetic preferences, and seldom disagree on how a commission should be executed. It's wonderful having someone who can visually read your mind!" Inspiration wise they mention classic Scandinavian designers such as Poul Henningsen, Finn Juhl and Marimekko, and even international graphic design icons such as Paul Rand, Abner Graboff and Lora Lamm.
