BIOGRAPHY

Matilda Lindeblad proves that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. Raised on the Swedish west coast in a home steeped in art and design, she was inspired early on by her creative parents, who worked in the fashion industry. Initially following in their footsteps, Matilda spent several intensive years in the nineties working as a fashion photographer and assistant in London, New York, and Paris. In 2001, she even turned down a permanent position as studio manager for Irving Penn before ultimately returning to Sweden. Back in Stockholm, one of her first high-profile projects was "Faces Towards the World"—a series of mannequin portraits that juxtaposed 1940s Soviet propaganda imagery with modern visual narratives, projected in large format onto the facade of the Medborgarhuset civic center. Around the same time, she was honored as a Hasselblad Master alongside renowned photographers such as Anton Corbijn. Now, over 15 years later, Matilda has firmly established herself as one of Sweden’s leading food photographers. Known for her exceptional sense of color, design, and trend awareness, her images are marked by precise detail and a dedication to quality. "I shifted my photographic focus as early as 2002," she explains. "My passion for food, coupled with the evolving creative landscape where images gained increased status, naturally led me to explore still-life food photography, where every detail tells a story." Operating from "Matstudion" (The Food Studio) in an industrial building on Kungsholmen, Stockholm, Matilda cherishes the natural northern light streaming through large windows, which creates an inspiring work environment. Her diverse clientele includes food magazines, advertising agencies, the Gothenburg Opera, and Stockholm’s Fotografiska Museum—where she also conducts courses on creative food photography. Additionally, she has produced the artwork for Arla’s seasonal cookbook series. Matilda Lindeblad’s journey from fashion to food photography showcases her remarkable ability to innovate and adapt, consistently delivering high-quality imagery that not only sets trends but also redefines the art of culinary visual storytelling.
